Handpicked chilly is cleaned and their stems are removed before powdering, to ensure that only pure spice is contained in each chilly powder packet. The stem of the chilly contains no nutrition and it may even contain harmful residues like fly ash, this is why traditionally in every Malayalee household the stem was removed before using chilly.
